Capital Campaign Objectives

Through this capital campaign, we are renewing our building so it remains strong, welcoming, and sustainable for decades to come. The first step is restoring the south, east, and west façades where the stone has worn, protecting the structure for generations ahead. Next, we will invest in energy-efficient improvements that reflect our commitment to a greener shared future, ensuring our building endures as a place where new expressions of community and creativity can thrive.

Building For Tomorrow

In 2024, we stepped out in faith to begin essential repairs to our building’s façade, a project carefully planned in three phases. Thanks to the generosity of our community, Phase One is now complete. This campaign enables us to continue the stonework and take the next step toward sustainability by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

As our congregation approaches its centennial, we invite you to be part of this milestone, helping us complete these projects and prepare our space for the next hundred years of ministry and community.

Who We Are

"We all know each other and we are unafraid to explore the openness of an expansive, not rigid, view of God. When I go to OSA, I'm blessed so that I can be a blessing." - Michael, attending since 2008

At the divide between upper and lower Washington Heights, between a lush garden and the striking Cambrian Manhattan Formation, stands our century-old neo-Gothic building, built from stone quarried from the very neighborhood it serves. Within these walls, a faithful congregation gathers alongside a vibrant mix of community and arts organizations who call this space home.

Raised by our forebears and entrusted to our care, this building is both our inheritance and our responsibility. We embrace the duty and the joy of preserving it so it continues to welcome worship, inspire creativity, and nurture community for generations to come.

Community Partners

Our congregation serves Northern Manhattan, in partnership with arts organizations through the Cornerstone Center. Together, we foster community and fellowship with a special focus on kindness, creativity, and programs for people of all ages. We welcome people of every faith, background, and life experience.

Our church is more than a building — it is a home. Guided by Jesus’s call to be the ‘salt of the earth’ and to love our neighbors, we ground our mission in hospitality and generosity. That mission comes to life each day as our building hosts neighborhood organizations: children learning to play musical  instruments, artists creating in dedicated studios, musicians performing in concerts, people in recovery gathering for strength, and young writers finding their voices through storytelling. Here, God’s love infuses both our Sunday worship and the vibrant life that gathers within our walls.

Your Impact

Join our campaign to repair and restore our neighborhood’s home for worship, creativity, and the arts.

Stonework Repairs

In early 2025, after two years of careful preparation, we began restoring our historic façade. The west section was completed through our reserves, and by mid-2025, generous lead donors made possible the first repairs to the southern wall and entrance. Our capital campaign now seeks $300,000 to finish the southern section and carry this important restoration forward.

Energy-Efficient Improvements

We’re committed to creating a greener, more sustainable home for our community. Restoring our windows is the next step: sealing the building, preserving its strength, and preparing us for future upgrades. With your support, we can raise $200,000 to make this vision a reality and move toward energy-efficient heating and cooling.

Together, we can reach our $500,000 stretch goal for further repairs and upgrades, ensuring this building remains a place of beauty, care, and kindness that honors our heritage and embodies our hope for the future.

Stocks • Individuals may donate stock that has appreciated over the years and eliminate capital gains taxes on the stock donated. When liquidated by OSA, there is no capital gains tax. The donor is still eligible for a charitable donation in the amount of the value of the stocks or bonds as of the date of transfer. • OSA has two mechanisms to receive gifts of stock: o One mechanism is to transfer the stocks to OSA’s brokerage account. Contact gifts@osanyc.org to schedule the transfer. o Another mechanism is to use the intermediary "Donate Stocks" (the link is posted below). The process with Donate Stock is easier and faster but incurs higher fees for the transfer. • Donors should work with their financial advisor when making these transfers to ensure the correct process is followed. If you give in this manner, please email gifts@osanyc.org to alert us of your gift.

IRA, Wire Transfers, EFTs and DAF • IRA. Retired persons with Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) may find gifts from their IRAs especially beneficial. If the gift goes directly to OSA from your IRA there is no state or federal tax on the withdrawal. The amount transferred counts toward your RMD and reduces your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). Please consult with your financial advisor and someone with the OSA Gift Giving group at gifts@osanyc.org to schedule the transfer. • Wire Transfers and Electronic Funds Transfer. Please contact gifts@osanyc.org for the information you will need to make these transfers. • DAFs. Please contact gifts@osanyc.org for the information you will need to make these transfers.
