We know it's not always easy to walk into something new. So you might have these questions.
What time does the service begin? What if I'm late? The service starts at 11AM* with a brief musical prelude. If you happen to arrive after the service begins, the ushers will bring you to an available seat. (NOTE: worship begins at 10AM on Sundays in July through Labor Day weekend)
What goes on during the worship service? There is a basic pattern for worship. We gather (called together by God’s spirit). We encounter God’s Word (through readings from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, through preaching, prayer, and song). We share a meal at the Lord’s table (where God feeds and nourishes us in a saving way). And then God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world. We do not think about worship so much in terms of what we do. Worship is fundamentally about what God is doing and our response to God’s action.
How will I know when to stand-up and sit down? By following along in the printed service program, you will find it easy to participate with us, even if you are unfamiliar with the Lutheran service.
Are there Sunday School classes? Sunday School classes for kids eight and up meet from 10-10:45 AM. Kids between the ages of 3 and 7 attend Sunday School during the service, returning in time to take communion with their parents. Sunday School meets during the school year.
Are children welcome to participate during the worship? Children learn the patterns of worship best by observing, and so we welcome children to attend and participate in the service each week.
On most Sundays, a short children’s sermon is given between the lesson readings. Once a month, the confirmation class serves as the worship leaders, reading the lessons to the congregation and leading the prayers.
Parents can also bring infants and toddlers to the nursery during the service, located downstairs from the entrance foyer. The nursery is set up with an audio monitor for parents to follow the service.
What else happens on Sunday mornings? The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from September to June beginning at 10:15. And following the service, everyone is invited to gather in the kitchen for food and fellowship.
What should I wear? Wear what you like. There's no spoken or unspoken dress code. You’ll see jeans, athletic shoes, khakis, jackets, and maybe a tie or two. What you wear is not important to God or to us. All that matters is that you are here.
