Our Sunday Servants program is one way to be involved at OSA. Each week, volunteers contribute time and talent to create a varied and rich hour of worship and praise. A short description of each position is listed below, and tutors are available. Visit the "Get Involved" page to sign up. DESCRIPTION
Altar Set-up: Set up altar paraments and communion elements beginning by 10:15am. Requires some basic training. Creativity welcomed.
Bread Baker: Make communion bread and bring it to church by 10:45am. Suggested recipes available.
Refreshments/Coffee Hour Set-up: Make coffee and bring cookies/muffins/etc. for fellowship after service.
Usher: Arrive 10:45 a.m. Greet congregants and hand them a bulletin. Collect offering. Do a headcount during service. Usher the congregation up for communion. A “Guide for Ushers” available.
Greeter: Assist usher in distributing bulletins and collecting offering. Greet and welcome everyone. After service, offer first time guests to sign guestbook.
Lector: Read scripture. Usually there are two readings, sometimes just one. Readings are emailed to you ahead of Sunday for practice.
Assisting Minister: Read designated prayers during service as indicated in a specially marked bulletin prepared by Pastor Barrie. Assist in the distribution of wine and juice during communion.
Communion Assistant: Assist Pastor and Assisting Minister in distributing wine and juice during communion.
Cantor: Sing Kyrie (in some liturgies) and psalm chant. This does require the ability to read music and, of course, comfort with singing alone.
Children’s Sermon: Prepare and deliver a short (3-4 minute), age-appropriate address to the children on the Gospel or scripture reading. Topics and suggestions available from Sunday School teachers.
Acolytes: This is a role served by one or two children between age 4 through confirmation age. Acolytes light altar candles during opening hymn and extinguish them during closing hymn. Mark Hill offers a brief acolyte certification course.
Special Music: Instrumental or vocal offerings are always welcome. Speak with Paul Mueller (music director) for more information.
