Here we are—tonight we begin the services of Holy Week. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter. We remember the story of Jesus’s command to his disciples, his betrayal, his death, and his resurrection, and we pass through history to the present. We hope that through this remembrance the reality of Jesus’s risen life becomes more clear to us, that we may trust more fully in his presence now.
This year, I’m thinking a lot about two old-fashioned ideas: truth and love. We have Jesus’ commandment to love one another, and the truth of Christ’s love for us demonstrated on the cross, and the truth of the whole love of God for the cosmos by the resurrection.
There’s a lot coming up this week. Here’s an outline of what to expect:
1. Maundy Thursday, 7:30 p..m.: A remembrance of Jesus’ commandment to service and mutual love in the Eucharist and the washing of feet.
2. Good Friday, 7:30 p.m.: A service of the Word and adoration of the cross.
Easter Egg Dyeing: 10 a.m. to 12: Bring your own eggs!
Easter Vigil, 7:30 p.m. Saturday night: Candlelight. commotion, champagne.
4. Easter Morning, 11 a.m.: Celebration, festal Eucharist, pancakes and potluck.
We will need lots of help Sunday morning—we need some folks to help set up chairs and tables in the gym before church, and we will need some people to help break down the tables and chairs, washing the dishes, and putting the dishes away. Please do bring a dish to share on Easter—our Easter potluck is a wonderful tradition, and it’s a nice time to share in the joy of resurrected Christ.
See you soon,
