Widens still holds a very special place in our hearts, but both daughters were this area and we fell in love with its beautiful countryside. Our Daughter Keren, her husband, Anthony, Jake (almost 3), and Ethan (almost 1) have since returned to Sutton Manor near Widnes, but Steph is still in Banbury as Director of Fundraising for Dogs for the Disabled. Our son Tim, his wife Jennifer, and Callum are moving to Kentuky in early February and a further deployment in Afghanistan is expected. We were so glad to visit with them in October when we were back in the U.S. briefly.
Our local village church, (St. Mary Megdalene) dating back to the twelfth century, has a wonderful peal of bells which are rung each Sunday and rang out the morning the Olympics began. There is good community spirit with activities planned throughout the year. There has been a church fund-raising Safari supper, the annual garden fete in the field behind our house, and a sausage festival (family Olympics complete with 3-legged, egg&spoon, and relay races). An outdoor caroling, accompanied by a brass band, with mince pies and mulled wine to follow, will be part of the Christmas season in addition to two concerts in the church. So there is much to entice you to come, visit with us and enjoy this area, which we hope you will do! Meanwhile, our thoughts are with you for a happy Christmas and new year.
